AGM
The club held its Annual Convention on Friday 20th January in the Clubhouse. Chairman,Michael Maher opened the meeting and welcomed all in attendance. He thanked Fr Martin Hayes for celebrating Mass for our deceased members and friends.Club Secretary,Thomas Callanan gave a comprehensive review of all club activities in 2011.Treasurer,Philip Leahy presented the club accounts in his customary detailed and professional manner outlining all areas of income and expenditure. He presented details for consideration in 2012, particularily in relation to financing our clubhouse development and encouraging more members to use our facilities. Both Thomas and Philip were complimented for their excellent stewardship of club affairs.
In his address to Convention,Chairman Michael Maher reflected on the year that had passed and while silverware was scarce, there were still many highlights. He told members that a club is more than success on the playing fields. In 2011,the club held a very successful presentation night in the Dome, 2 members launched books namely Mickey Byrne and Tomas O Baroid,John Enright's committee Hurling Tournament successfully hosted the inaugural International 13's for the Semple Cup,for the first time ever 3 Club players Lar,Padraic & Michael were chosen on the All Stars selection, this was a huge honour for the players, their families and their club, Padraic & Lar picked up Munster and Tipperary Player of the Year accolades. He believed our lack of success last year was an accurate barometer of where we are,it was a bigger test of us in a year when we were not as successful. It is up to ourselves to improve. That improvement is in our own hands as we can control the factors that lead to success. He told convention that last year is over and he wished the team managements and players every success for the coming season. He extended a special welcome to Tom Meehan,Chairman of Durlas Og,Mayor of Thurles,Councillor John Kennedy and to officers of Thurles Camogie Club,Bernie O Dowd and Louise Lanigan. He appreciated it was a big decision to come under the Sarsfields umbrella and he took the opportunity to welcome the Camogie club to Sarsfields. He congratulated Tom Meehan on his stewardship and all they had achieved under his watch and he thanked Durlas Og for the use of their premises and training facilities during the year.He invited members to attend the Ladies Football AGM on 27th January where they will reflect on a year that saw another County championship in Minor football claimed. The all embracing nature of our club at the moment brings the need for extra training facilities sharply into focus. 2012 will see the 35th Anniversary of the opening of the Social Centre and this will coincide with our club entering a new development phase that will become a major feature of club life for the next number of years.
He concluded by thanking all who had helped him in fulfilling his role, particularily our sponsor RPM Sports and the Byrne family for their generous donation to the club.Others who soke at Convention were Bernie O Dowd,Tom Meehan and Councillor John Kennedy.John paid tribute to the manner in which the officers looked after club affairs. He was delighted to announce that he was proposing to make a major contribution from the Mayoral Fund of the County Council towards the redevelopment of the Clubhouse. He looked forward to working closely with the club committee to bring this to fruition.
