Club members were very busy at the weekend with the Hurling Festival. The official opening on Friday was well attended, with special guests: -Michael Cleary-Mayor of Thurles, Seán Nugent-Tipperary G.A.A. Chairman, Alan Kelly-Minister of State at the Dept. of Tourism and Sport, and Brian Keating-Shannon Development. Club Chairman-Michael Maher launched the Festival. Following the official opening, a concert, organised by Tipperary Co. Board of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann was enjoyed. The concert included Óige Thiobraid Árann (producer-Claire Quinn), Set Dancers from Craobh Chaisleán Nua C.C.E. and the Tulach Seasta Céilí Band (producer-Mary McAuliffe).

On Saturday, twelve teams contested the hurling competitions with Tooreen, Co. Mayo, winning the Jack Carew Cup and Kilburn Gaels, London, retaining the Tom Semple Memorial Cup. We were delighted that Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Liam Ó Néill, was present in the clubhouse on Saturday evening to present the medals. He also presented the trophies to the winners of the Road Bowling competitions and to the European Hurling and Camogie champions. Mrs. Ann Gunning, daughter of Tom Semple, and members of the Semple family were present. John Enright, chairman of the organising committee, closed the Festival by thanking all involved in making it such a success.
