Sars girls prevent Cahir from taking 8 in row in Community Games
At the end of an exciting game of football the Thurles Sarsfields under 11 football team emerged victorious by 6 points on a score line of 2 goals and 2 points to 2 points. This was a hard fought win played in damp conditions in Semple Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday last. Sars were the first team to register a score when Marie Creedon pointed in the 12th minute. As the game ebbed and flowed Cahir drew level before a good Sars move ended up with Kate Kelly scoring from close range. Led by Siabh Leahy at centre back the Sars backs held firm and lead by four at half time.
The second half was very tense as Cahir opened the scoring to leave a goal between the teams. As Cahir piled on the pressure the Sars girls increased their workrate and on a quick breakaway Lauren MaCormach drove through the Cahir backline to score a wonderful goal. She followed this up soon after with a lovely point. From then on the Sars girls never looked like they would surrender their lead and the final whistle was greeted with loud shouts of joy. This was a sweet victory and overturned a 1 point defeat to the same opposition twelve months previous. There were outstanding performances all over the field for Sars and they now march forward to the Muster finals in Limerick on the 9th of July.
